Paying It Forward
The last couple years I've had really good luck. I've won contests, I've been in the "right place" at the "right time" and I've been very grateful for whatever good vibes the universe has been sending my way. Friends have asked me for my secret, but I really don't have one other than to tell them I like to "pay it forward" and invest in future good karma. Recently I participated in a contest hosted by a local salon, with the prize of a haircut. I shared the story of my worst haircut ever (I'm still waiting for my parents to email a copy of my school picture that year), and my wonderful friends jumped to the request to "like" my entry. My sad story won.
Now, I hadn't had a haircut in the better part of three years, so it was time for a change. A BIG change. I formulated a plan of action, arranged my appointment, and headed down to Mint Hair Studio for my cut. It was time to take it all off..

Where is that 16" hank of hair going? Why, I'm paying my good fortune forward and donating it to Angel Hair For Kids! It's just hair and it will grow back, and this was an easy opportunity to do something kind for someone else. There are many different places that will accept hair donations -- check the Canadian Cancer Society website for a comprehensive list. Most will only accept donations of 12" of length or longer, so read the requirements carefully.
Now I'm lighter of head (no jokes, please!) and someone else is a little closer to having a wig -- all it took was 3 years of hair cutting procrastination on my part! If I'd realized how shocking my big chop would be to my friends, I'd have done a bit of a fundraiser but this was really a last minute decision in a moment of opportunity for me. Maybe next time!
