The Buttcheek Express, Or "What Makes 4 Year Olds Awesome"

It's no secret that I have depression, or that I try every day to keep it at bay. There are times when this is harder to do -- when I'm being slammed by one bad thing after another, when I'm sick, or when I'm overtired. I'm working on a pretty major stress-related sleep deficit right now, so some days I'm having trouble being happy.

Fortunately for me, my 4yr old is good for a daily dose of levity.

It rained a lot today. When I arrived to pick him up from school, I saw him happily sitting on the wet ground.

Boy#3: "Mommy, when we get home today you must take my shoes and pants and shirt and unnerwear off before we go in da house."

Me: "Oh, why?"

Boy#3, in a matter-of-fact tone of voice: "'cause I sat in a puddle while I was waiting so I could be wet and covered in sand and haf to take my cwothes off outside."

Of course, that makes so much sense. Why didn't I think of that?

When we got back to the house, I started stripping off his wet layers on the porch until all that remained was an ironically dry pair of socks.

Boy#3: "Mommy, do you know what da BEST PART of being naked outside is? Making BUM PRINTS on the door!" [squeak squeak]

(Note to self: That window really needs to get reacquainted with Mr. Windex.)

As he pranced inside, naked but for a pair of alligator socks, I reminded him to go find some clean undies and then went to the kitchen to make a cup of tea.

Five minutes later, a naked 4yr old bounced into the kitchen.

Me: "I thought you were getting undies -- did you forget?"

Boy#3: "No!" [turns around and wiggles his bum] "I bwought dem in da BUTTCHEEK EXPRESS!"

Some days there really are no words,  just lots and lots of laughter!
