Recipe: Buttermilk Waffles

Our family is a huge fan of waffles and this recipe makes a generous batch. Your choices of toppings are endless -- we enjoy chocolate syrup, whipped cream, fruit, jam, and maple syrup (though not generally all together).

This easy buttermilk waffle recipe makes a perfect waffle with a bit of chew -- ideal for toasting leftovers in your toaster. Mix this up the night before and store it in your fridge so it is ready to go in the morning!

Leftovers can be frozen and reheated in a toaster.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp baking powder

  • 2 tbsp granulated (white) sugar

  • 2 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp yeast

  • 6 eggs

  • 3.5 cups buttermilk

  • 1 cup butter, melted and cooled slightly

  • 2 tsp vanilla

Instructions

Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.

Mix together eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and mix well.

Cover with plastic wrap, and let sit for 2hrs at room temperature before using.

Cook in a waffle iron, according to the directions for your appliance. Ours is a Cuisinart, and I find using the second highest setting works best for these.
